Alternative Treatmen and HIV

I am glad that there are many people who are benefiting from the pharmaceutical solutions to HIV. I would never try to convince anyone not to do the Meds, or to leave a protocol they want to use. I can only tell my story.
I was diagnosed in ’91, probably contracting some years earlier. I had waited to get tested until health and life insurance had been in place for over 2 years. There was no question I had led a promiscuous life up until that point.
At that time the mainstream treatment was AZT. I already knew I was not going that route. I started a long, angry making journey becoming responsible for my own health that lead me into a number of naturalistic and Chinese medicine treatments.
Now it’s 25 years later and I’m dealing with getting old, but not with HIV. I do a lot of preventative work, and I’m healthy. I still get either sarcastic comments or negative feedback from the medical community. When I ask them who financed a major piece of the studies that came up with the solution of the meds, they tell me pharmaceutical companies. Well maybe if that much money had been put into other potential solutions there would be acceptable ones.
My health is not proven by science and therefore discounted by some. Science cannot prove common sense. Let’s face it we know that HIV is actually one of the wimpy viruses. We have lots of virus in our bodies. Healthy bodies can keep things in check. But that means we are each responsible for keeping our body health. Most people don’t really want to bother. So ‘magic bullet’ treatment is the mainstream. But just because something isn’t ‘mainstream’, it doesn’t make it ineffective. We can change what we eat, drink, the hours we keep, the company we keep. I am 65, I see so many guys of my generation, playing in the same unsafe manner that I did in the 70’s and 80’s. I find it difficult to find friends who have grown up and become responsible.
You are the only one really who is responsible for your health. What are you doing about it?
